Relationships:
Trust, Communication, Support
Teaching is not just about the content. Teaching is about the relationships formed between a teacher and student.
Communication plays a major role in classroom relationships. I want my students to be able to talk to me about their confusions, insights, and anything else they feel I need to know. I want my students to know I will support them through anything. I believe when a student trusts his/her teacher, he/she is more willing to learn and have an open mind. Trust goes hand-in-hand with communication. Communication is key to building relationships with students, which in turn creates a more positive learning environment. |
Classroom Management:
Routines, Consistency, Safe Space
My philosophy of Classroom Management is based upon Wong (2018) and the concept of consistency. I believe consistency is key to creating a safe and productive learning environment and results from procedures and routines. Procedure implementation begins on day one which then becomes the routines of the classroom as the year progresses. Students will be able to predict what will happen within our classroom which in turn increases in-class performance.
Further, with consistency comes trust. I hope to create an environment in which my students can trust me and trust that I will give them structure each day regardless of what is happening in their lives outside of the classroom. The structure within my classroom will foster safety for every student to learn and succeed as an individual.
